“Another Happy Day” opens at Peterborough Community Theatre Sept. 27 and will be screened through Oct. 3, with select talkbacks after the showings.

Written and directed by Nora Fiffer of Peterborough, “Another Happy Day” debuted at the Vail Film Festival last winter. Fiffer next screened her film about postpartum depression at the Beverly Hills and Santa Barbara film festivals.

“It was wonderful to show the film at festivals, but being picked up by a distributor was always our goal, so everyone can see this. Postpartum depression is still not recognized or talked about enough,” Fiffer stated.

Starting Oct. 1, audiences can watch “Another Happy Day” on their devices, after its release by Gravitas Ventures on Apple, Prime Video and other VOD platforms.

The film follows Joanna, played by comedian Lauren Lapkus, as she navigates the unfamiliar and lonely spaces of new motherhood. Desperate for company, Joanna tumbles into an unlikely friendship with her eccentric aunt, played by Marilyn Dodds Frank.

With humor, the film explores the ups and downs of new motherhood, the importance of relationships and how people create new families— all common themes of Fiffer’s work in film and theater.

The film also features Jean Elie and Emmy nominee Carrie Coon, and was produced by Jessie Holder Tourtellotte.

Fiffer moved to Peterborough in 2016, with her husband and their 18-month-old daughter. Life in cities such as New York, Chicago and Amsterdam was all she had ever known. She feared her career in theater and film was over, and that’s when she began writing “Another Happy Day.”
