Wendy Gibbons of Blue Feather Farm will present “Are Old Farm Fields Bittersweet for Birds?” on Wednesday, May 14, at 6:30 p.m. at the Bennington Train Depot.

Gibbons will discuss how bird-banding helps monitor wild bird populations through citizen science. She will explain how volunteers are trained to safely capture and tag birds, aiding biologists in assessing local ecosystem health.

A trained bird bander and natural history enthusiast, Gibbons will share data and photos from Blue Feather Farm in Antrim, where she and her husband Dan Wenny are in their second year of bird banding and volunteer training. She will also highlight local and international efforts, including saw-whet owl banding with the Harris Center for Conservation Education and the Monitoring Avian Productivity and Survivorship (MAPS) program.

All ages are welcome. The event is sponsored by the Bennington Conservation Commission.
