ConVal High School students’ creativity is on display in a range of media at the Peterborough Town Library. A visual arts presentation titled “Greatest Hits” features painting, fashion, ceramics, jewelry and other creations as part of the Children and the Arts festival.
In ceramics, Aidan Marony crafted an inside wall and an outside wall for a lamp after finding that “a teacher had the electrical works and a shape lying around.” The Antrim resident has a throwing wheel at home, as well.
Junior Audrey Young’s sketch of pen, ink graphite and collage on a wall is the work of someone who has won three Scholastic Gold Medals and been nominated for a national prize for her art.
Senior Owen Beaulieau created a collage representing a Tokyo street scene, noting that “Every piece of it has its own story, as well.” He initially sketched his design in charcoal, then layered it with grout for a three-dimensional effect. Beaulieau is headed to the Florida Institute of Technology to study aerospace engineering in the fall, but finds art “a liberating outlet.”
Carolann Tebbetts of the ConVal Art Club said that while Advanced Placement art is offered, a student whose sketch of a clown hints at a scaffolded perspective declined an offer to take AP. Destiney Jimenez explained to Tebbetts, “In the standard level class, I get to work with other students.
Chloe Ward changed the focus of effort, shifting media. “I’m not loving drawing,” Tebbetts quoted her as saying, adding that she tried fashion design and produced a dress that stands out against a white wall with its colors.
Kensie Sazonick’s painting brings color as well as texture in its depiction of a face making a face, and Danica Murdough’s ceramic creations are ornamental as well as functional, with clips worked into them.
Kyle Austin has dabbled in at least two media, as a ceramic tea pot and a painting of a raining street scene convey.
