ConVal boys’ track wins at Hollis-Brookline

The ConVal boys’ and girls’ track teams participated in a meet at Hollis-Brookline on Tuesday, May 6, and the Clipper Relays at Portsmouth High School on Thursday, May 8. The boys’ team won at Hollis-Brookline with 109 points, followed by the hosts with 78, Timberlane with 42, Tilton’s 24 and Derryfield’s 11.

Freshman Walter Stephens won the 800-meter run in 2:16.03 and also won the triple jump with a leap of 35-feet, 9-inches. Senior Josh Decker won the 1,600-meter run in 5:09.8 (8 points) and finished second in triple jump with a 30-foot, 7-inch effort.

Sophomore Morly Johnson won the discus with a throw of 114-feet, 3-inches and placed third in the shot put, at 40-feet, 3 ½-inches. Senior Roman Cadwallader also scored in those events, winning the shot put with a throw of 41-feet, 5 ½-inches and placing fourth in discus, at 97-feet, 10-inches.

The 4x100-meter relay team, consisting of senior Elliot Featherstone, sophomore Griffin Schultz, junior Sam Davis and sophomore Wetu Selby, won their race in 45.51 seconds.

Several other athletes contributed to the team’s 109-point total. Senior Maxx Telofski finished in second place in the shot put (40-feet, 11-inches) and third place in the discus (100-feet, 7-inches). Davis was second in the 200-meter dash (24.71 seconds) and third in the 100-meter dash (11.9 seconds).

Featherstone finished second in the 100-meter dash (11.74 seconds). Sophomore Bretton Davies was second in the long jump (16-feet, 4-inches). Schultz was second in the 400-meter run (54.58 seconds), and Selby finished third in the 200-meter dash (24.84 seconds, 4 points).

The girls’ team finished in fifth place with 32 points. They were led by freshman Varya Nikitina, who won the 300-meter hurdles (57.34 seconds) and placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (20.86 seconds). Freshman Amelie Davis finished second in the long jump (13-feet, 2-inches), and freshman Larianna Trudel was third in the 200-meters (29.6 seconds) and third in the triple jump (25-feet, 3-inches).

ConVal’s 4x100-meter relay team (56.84 seconds) and 4x400-meter relay team (5:54.87) each captured third place.

At the Clipper Relays meet, the boys shot put team of Telofski (43-feet, ½-inch), Cadwallader (40-feet, ½-inch), and Morly Johnson (39-feet, 7 ¾-inches) finished third out of 23 competing teams, based on the combined total of their throws.

The boys 4x400-meter relay team of Schultz, senior William Simard, Davis and Kendrick Edwards ran 3:31.05, which is five seconds faster than the team’s previous season-best. That time is within a half-second of the ConVal school record for the 4x400-meter relay event. Edwards, Davis and Schultz teamed up with Elliot Featherstone in the 4x100-meter relay, finishing eighth out of 23 teams in 44.6 seconds, which is a season-best in that event for the ConVal team.
