I’d like to correct Representative Ross Berry’s false statements in the recent story on immigration enforcement in Peterborough.

Being an “illegal” (undocumented) immigrant is not a crime. It is a civil offense. There are no criminal penalties for simply being in New Hampshire without the correct papers. Berry should know this, but perhaps he finds the facts inconvenient.
