ConVal High School senior Sophia Lake earned two top-five finishes at the recent Division II swimming and diving state championship at the University of New Hampshire, finishing second in the 100-yard breaststroke and third in the 200-yard individual medley.

The breaststroke was a close race against Sofia Ye from Hanover, where Lake gained on her significantly in the last 25 yards, earning her second place.

“To see Sophia race in the state championship was very exciting! The Hanover swimmer won the breaststroke by only three-hundredths of a second,” stated Athletic Director Kevin Proctor. “It’s wonderful to see all of her persistence and practice culminate in a big way.”

“Congratulations to Sophia on her placements in the Division II swimming and diving state championship,” stated Principal Heather McKillop. “We are so proud to see our dedicated swimmers be recognized for their hard work. We cannot wait to see what Sophia and her fellow swimmers accomplish next!”
