Letter: Earth Day thank you

Published: 05-06-2025 12:00 PM

Six area conservation commissions came together to create a spectacular celebration for Earth Day at Cathedral of the Pines in Rindge.

Attendees enjoyed talks on timely topics and educational, activity and vending booths. Jaffrey Climate Initiative was pleased to participate with table displays about single-use plastics, personal care products that avoid plastic packaging, and native-plant permaculture from Fassett Farm Nursery.

Many attendees signed the NH Network's petition calling on supermarkets to reduce single-use plastic bags. The environmental damage caused by plastic bags is well known, and New Hampshire residents are taking action to join other Northeast states to reduce them.  Please join in this campaign by signing the petition electronically at actionnetwork.org/petitions/say-no-plastic-bag.

We thank Market Basket, Hannaford and Shaw's for donating reusable shopping bags to hand out at our Earth Day table, and we encourage everyone to thank them by bringing their reusable bags when they shop.

We also thank Tom Hsu of Jaffrey for his leadership and the conservation commissions of Jaffrey, Rindge, Dublin, Marlborough, Troy and Fitzwilliam for a wonderful collaboration to produce an excellent, memorable Earth Day Festival.
