Summer is just about upon us, and here comes the sun! After a spring soaked in rain, my garden and new lawn are practically singing for sunshine. I don’t mean to sound ungrateful; the rain has been a gift, coaxing vibrant life from the soil. But as with most things, it’s a double-edged sword. When we have one, we long for the other.

Education is built into the mission of the Players, which includes hiring paid apprentices to work throughout the summer on all five productions.

A new three-tier rate system for Peterborough residents and businesses who use public water and sewers was approved by the Select Board Tuesday to encourage water conservation and shift some of the financial burden for water to bigger users in town.

A Peterborough resident on probation has been sentenced to up to five years in prison for being in possession of firearms and drugs. In Hillsborough County Superior Court North, Branden French pleaded guilty to 12 counts of Felon in Possession of a Deadly Weapon, and four counts of Possession of a Controlled Drug, also a felony.

The Peterborough Recreation Department staff has begun to get Adams Pool ready for summer. The pool opens for the season on Friday, June 20, at 9:30 a.m. for adult lap swim. Swim lessons start Monday, June 23.
Peterborough Town Library, 2 Concord St., will present its next Community Art Gallery exhibit, “Kaleidoscope,” beginning Friday, June 6.
Downtown Peterborough will host its monthly First Friday event from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 6, with extended hours at local shops, live music, art exhibits and special programs to mark Juneteenth and Father’s Day.

Lionheart Classical Academy announced Monday that the Peterborough charter school for students in kindergarten through eighth grade has acquired the former Next Level Church building at 700 Dublin Road in Peterborough.
The sixth annual Listen & Lunch outdoor music series will take place Thursdays from June 6 through Aug. 29 from noon to 1 p.m. in Depot Park, 1 Grove St. in Peterborough. The event is free and open to the public.
